Care Fund Celebrates First Year Successes

After just one year, Care Fund enters 2014 on an upswing

Arizona’s only Foundation to grant mortgage or rent to families with ill children helps over 40 families stay in their homes while caring for their children.

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz., January 16, 2014 — The Care Fund was launched January 2013, to help families with a critically ill child pay their home mortgage or rent when medical expenses severely limit their ability to meet their monthly housing obligations. In just 9 months of fundraising, almost $600,000 in funds were received, close to its 2013 stated goal of raising $1 million.

“Our mission is unlike any other,” states Cathy Sherwin, Executive Director. “We help to support families at their most vulnerable time – they are financially unable to provide a roof over their heads while focusing on the care of their child.    We’ve engaged top leaders in Arizona on our Board of Directors, Community Partners and Advisory Board, all whom champion The Care Fund to their own associates and circles of influence. We started granting funds throughout Arizona in March of 2013 and the need is growing quickly.  It’s our goal to stay well ahead of the need.”

Exceptional fundraising initiatives launched in 2013 included transactional giving, matching grants from community funds, a Calais Campbell Celebrity Poker Tournament, celebrity Roast with Sheriff Joe Arpaio and SNL’s Chris Kattan, as well as numerous third party events supporting the Care Fund as their community beneficiary.  The Care Fund was also added to the United Way Campaign through employees requesting to donate.

“We are grateful and amazed at the results of our fundraising efforts in such a short time. The homeownership industry laid an incredible foundation of support. Now, we’re expanding awareness to many more industries in Arizona,” said B ill Rogers, Care Fund co-founder and CEO of Homeowners Financial Group (HFG), USA, LLC. HFG is one of Arizona’s most awarded mortgage companies.  “We feel that the Care Fund mission serves a vital and missing need, and it’s our duty to give back to the very families who have been our clients throughout the years.”
